Okay, I think I have resurrected this service. I was quite busy for the past year at least & here I am after making the decision to log all our interesting Spearfishing & Blue water hunting trips. When I said "our" I meant; Team Mazameer & Red Sea Hogz. Both are groups of great hunters with diversified talents. Both teams together actually represent the majority of organized spearfishing (APNEA) activity in Egypt.
No we are not against Scuba Spearfishing however; we prefer to go to the more of a "Challenge" part. This blog will keep you updated with the latest trip news, records & conditions. I will try to provide as much as I can of information related to the tech, tools & gear used. The more you go through this blog the more you will understand about spearfishing in the region & how spearfishing is perceived at our ends & what is our overall moral & ethics when hunting.
In Egypt I can clearly say that Spearfishing is completely banned. Yes it is, there is nothing to be worried about but; Spearfishing is an ancient sport that carried on to the recent moments of our lives with all the technology & developments going out there. Human beings are considered as generic hunters in origin don't you agree ? Banning such a need or a natural instinct might sound completely unfair however makes sense. Many many people abuse this sport, specially commercial fishermen in the area. Its all about preserving whats left from the beautiful gift that we have been given since the dawn of life. This is easy to understand isn't it ? So the abuse of such resources & dreamlike scenery is considered literally a crime. Many people do not understand that, they only understand "Whats in it for my pocket" or "whats in it for my wall to hang".
The true & ethical sea hunter is not about destroying what nature has of treasures; it's about blending into it, living & breathing it. Many of us consider Spearfishing as a prime & dangerous sport to kill yourself or the fish. That's not right, so that's why before taking any step into this addictive natural instinct, it is imperative to understand it & bond with it first.
Unfortunately; I believe that it's a very long road to walk until we can manage a truce about Spearfishing in Egypt. The explanation itself is a heck of a load & transmitting the true impact of this sport is even heftier. So until this dream comes true, I will keep recording our quests with all its useful details. Maybe one day will come where we can have a proper law or statement that could be mutual for all parties related to such great activity.
Talking about a backlog is a blog of its own, I can't even perfectly remember all the trips that we have been through. They are too many & there are too many to come I assure.
So if you surf this, whether you're a Mazameer or Hogz member or maybe neither of them, I hope that you will enjoy it & make use of it as much as you can. I hope that you will learn something out of it
For now I will leave you with a simple clip, featuring a part of a wreck dive in APNEA " no scuba tanks ", only free diving that we had a month ago. Our last trip was 2 days ago so the visuals are not here yet & will post them onwards.
